WHAT IS A SORE THROAT?

APIS

Apis is a helpful treatment for tonsillitis when the entire area is bright red, swollen, and often shiny. The tonsils may have ulcers and be noticeably enlarged.  The discomfort is searing and burning, and the throat feels tight. There is difficulty swallowing and a feeling that something foreign is in the throat.  Although the person is frequently not particularly thirsty, ice cubes or cold beverages can help with the symptoms.

ARSENICUM ALBUM

This medicine is recommended for sore throats where the throat feels restricted, there is a burning sensation when swallowing, and nausea is frequently present.  The two main characteristics that set this cure apart from others for an acute sore throat are that the user usually feels extremely thirsty and needs frequent, little sips of liquid.

BELLADONNA

Belladonna is frequently recommended in cases of acute throat infections where the symptom profile is appropriate.  The main symptoms of Belladonna include an abrupt start of illness, frequently accompanied by a high temperature, a noticeably bright red and swollen tonsil and throat, and a raw burning feeling in the throat. Additionally, a very common feeling of constriction, swallowing difficulty, and an ongoing need to swallow are present.  Right side symptoms can occasionally be more severe.  The face is usually flushed, and the head feels heated.  Most of the time, the person is incredibly thirsty for cold water or lemon drinks. 

HEPAR SULPHURICUM

When a person has tonsillitis or a painful throat and feels like there is a fishbone or splinter in their throat, hepar sulph is a helpful treatment.  The throat may feel tight and the tonsils could be enlarged.  The usual symptom of hepar sulph is a sharp, stitching, splinter-like pain in the throat that, when swallowed, frequently radiates to the ears (some people compare the discomfort to ingesting shattered glass).  Hepar sulph is frequently required for sore throats that develop after being exposed to cold temperatures since the throat is sensitive to touch and cold.  Hot beverages frequently provide momentary relief from the symptoms.

LACHESIS

Since lachesis has a significant left-sided bias, it is frequently recommended for sore throats that are on the left side . The throat feels dry and restricted, and you want to swallow.  When swallowing, there is a common and lingering sensation of a lump or obstruction in the throat that is made worse by liquids but relieved by solids.  Frequently, the affected area will seem dark red or purplish.  The person will avoid contact with clothing or bedcovers because the external throat is extremely sensitive to touch or even the smallest pressure.

MERCURIUS SOLUBILIS

In cases of tonsillitis and severe sore throats, Merc Sol is frequently prescribed.  When swallowing, the throat may feel raw and burning and there may be a tightness or alien body sensation.  The throat could appear blue red and enlarged.  Usually, there is a burning dryness in the throat and a persistent urge to swallow.  Salivation significantly increases along with throat problems, and Merc sol is frequently recommended in cases of throat ulcers.  Additionally, the mouth has the normal unpleasant or metallic taste and odor.
